A Big Weekend For Arsenal and Manchester United

By January 18, 2013

Follow me on:

It's a massive Sunday of Premier League football this weekend which could shape the battle for the Premier League title and the Champions League places.

Chelsea and Arsenal meet at Stamford Bridge and both badly need a win for their own reasons.

A win for Chelsea means they would either maintain their current gap from Manchester City or decrease it if City fail to get a result against Fulham.

It's a more important match for Arsenal who are chasing a Champions League place. Failure to win for the Gunners could mean they are nine points away from fourth place after the weekend's games.

Arsenal look a decent bet at 3/1 with Bwin -see  https://sports.bwin.com/en/sports/4/betting/football for all weekend odds - to pick up a victory and they will be confident given their recent record at Stamford Bridge.

However, only three teams have scored more goals than Chelsea at home this season and 17/4 from Bwin for Demba Ba to bag the first goal of the game looks to be a great place.

Chelsea look relatively secure of their Champions League qualification ahead of next season so the victory is more important for Arsenal in terms of saving their season and stopping them sliding down the table.

The late kick-off on Sunday between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United looks very difficult to call.

United have secured some tough away wins in the Premier League this year and they will be intent on maintaining their seven point lead over Manchester City.

However, Spurs will still be aggrieved that they missed out on the Champions League last season despite finishing in fourth place.

That's the position they currently hold in the league table and failure to win could see Everton draw level with them on points.

It's slightly surprising not to see United as odds on favourites with Bwin at a current price of 5/4 considering United haven't lost at White Hart Lane in the Premier League for over ten years.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side have secured some narrow wins on the road this season including big victories at Anfield and at arch rivals Manchester City. A 2-1 win for United is 8/1 with Bwin and a very likely score line.

A defeat for United means they will be top of the table regardless but a victory would send out a clear and decisive message to City that they really do mean business this time round.
