Jose Mourinho is a rare bird indeed. Few other coaches in the world game feel the need to criticize their counterparts like the Special One.
It is unusual to see one coach mock another without some sort of provocation but Mourinho is an expert at off the cuff outbursts which, while fascinating, must leave the subjects exasperated.
This week it is the turn of England coach Fabio Capello, Mourinho's Inter Milan successor Rafael Benitez and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger.
Mourinho believes that "Capello will not work for England" and that "you cannot go around just shouting at players". Easy to kick a man when he's down, but music to the ears of the English media who would like to see Capello hung, drawn and quartered after a poor World Cup.
Mourinho and Benitez were never good friends when the pair were managing Chelsea and Liverpool. Mourinho reckons that the Reds went backwards under the Spaniard.
His third broadside was aimed at his old friend Wenger who he once accused of being a voyeur. He has now suggested that Wenger is using youth as an excuse for a lack of trophies at Arsenal and does not believe they will challenge for the Premier League this season.
Mourinho is untouchable at present, having won the treble with Inter Milan last season. But he has a big job on his hands at Real Madrid and it will be fascinating to see whether his Real side can have the same asphyxiating affect on Barcelona as the Nerazzurri did in the Champions League semi-finals last season.
