A rundown of which players Italian clubs signed in the January 2013 transfer window.

The clubs had until January 31, when the window closed, to do business.

Mario Balotelli’s big-money move back to Serie A after an unhappy spell at Manchester City grabbed the headlines in the Italian transfer window. The moody frontman joined AC Milan, local rivals of Balotelli’s former club Inter.

Another Italian striker returning to Serie A was Giuseppe Rossi who moved to Fiorentina from Spanish Segunda division club Villarreal. La Viola also brought in Mohamed Sissoko on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Inter Milan were typically busy, with Mateo Kovacic, Ezequiel Schelotto and Zdravko Kuzmanovic among the arrivals at the San Siro.

Much traveled French striker Nicolas Anelka joined Juventus after a brief sojourn in China with Shanghai Shenhua.

Troubled Roma signed defender Marquinhos on a permanent deal, and also brought in Greece international Vasilis Torosidis from Olympiakos.

One high profile departure from Serie A was Brazil striker Alexandre Pato who left Milan to return to his homeland and start a new chapter in his career with Corinthians.
