The 2010 World Cup top scorers so far.
1. Thomas Mueller (5 goals, 3 assists)
Won the Golden Boot award for top scorer because if players are level on goals scored, assists come into play. He ended the tournament with three assists, two more than his rivals. Mueller scored the third for Germany against Australia and struck twice in the 4-1 rout of England. Something of an unknown quantity on the international scene after a breakthrough season with Bayern Munich, Mueller added his fourth early on against Argentina and scored his final goal of the tournament in the win over Uruguay.
2. David Villa (5 goals, 1 assist)
Hit a stunning effort into the corner to give Spain the lead against Honduras and doubled the advantage with a deflected effort later on. Missed a penalty in the same game to blot his copybook. In the final group match against Chile he scored from long range with the goalkeeper stranded up field, while in the following round his goal knocked out Portugal. Villa made it five goals in four matches with the only goal of the game to beat Paraguay in the quarter finals.
3. Wesley Sneijder (5 goals, 1 assist)
The Netherlands playmaker has performed well in South Africa, scoring against Japan, Slovakia, Brazil (2) and Uruguay. Many thought Robin van Persie was a certainty to be his side's top scorer, but it is Sneijder all the way.
4. Diego Forlan (5 goals)
A deflected effort gave Uruguay the lead against South Africa and a penalty in the same match handed his side a convincing 3-0 win. He may have played in a deeper role in that game, but he still hit the target twice. Scored a stunning free-kick against Ghana in the quarter finals and another long-range effort in the 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands in the semis. His strike against Germany was also spectacular.
5. Gonzalo Higuain (4 goals)
The Argentina striker scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over South Korea in the group stages, and another against Mexico in the second round. Four opportunist strikes put him amongst the top scorers.
6. Miroslav Klose (4 goals)
Netted in the first match for Germany against Australia and then in the second round thrashing of England. His two strikes against Argentina means he is now the joint second highest scorer in World Cup history.
7. Robert Vittek (4 goals)
Gave Slovakia the lead in the disappointing 1-1 draw with New Zealand and was the hero with the first two goals as his side knocked Italy out of the tournament. Also netted a penalty in the last kick of the match against the Netherlands as Slovakia went out of the competition.
8. Landon Donovan (3 goals)
The main protagonist in the US' successful quest to get out of their group. His excellent effort into the roof of the net to start the comeback against Slovenia was followed by a 91st minute winner against Algeria. Also scored a penalty for his side as they bowed out to Ghana in the second round.
9. Luis Fabiano (3 goals)
The Brazilian scored with the aid of his hand against Ivory Coast to put his side 2-0 up. He denied it to the referee at the time, but later confirmed that the ball did hit his hand (as if we couldn't see that already!). There was no doubt about his first strike, a goal similar in nature to Donovan's against Slovenia. Also netted in the second round against Chile.
10. Asamoah Gyan (3 goals)
A former target of frustrated Ghana fans, Gyan has come up trumps in South Africa with goals against Serbia, Australia and the United States. He may not be a stellar name like Didier Drogba or Samuel Eto'o but he has a good international strike rate.
