A derby match is generally one played between two teams in the same region. Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan v AC Milan are derbies. However, Barcelona’s meeting with Real Madrid has also been referred to as a ‘derby’, because of the historic nature of the national rivalry.
