Definition:
Used in soccer to determine which team will kick off and in which direction. The referee tosses the coin in the presence of the two captains prior to kick-off. Whoever wins the toss can choose to kick towards a certain end in the first-half, or opt to kick off. If a cup match goes to penalties, the coin toss is used to determine which end of the ground to take the penalties.
