Leaving Manchester United is a tough decision for any player to make at any stage of their career, especially just after the Old Trafford club have reclaimed their Premier League title from Chelsea, but Kieran Ricahrdson has shown great courage by making the leap to Roy Keane's Sunderland.
The pursuit of first team football and a career spent out on a football pitch rather than warming the bench and waiting for the evergreen Ryan Giggs to retire seems to be Richardson's main motivation and in deciding to move to pre-season relegation favourites Sunderland, he has put an enormous amount of trust in the plans of chairman Niall Quinn and former United team-mate and Sunderland boss Roy Keane.
Left footed English midfielders are in short supply and if Richardson can prove that his footballing education at Old Trafford has given him the tools to succeed then Keane will be more than willing to show what he can do, if only on the condition that he keeps his cousin, Big Brother superbitch Charley, out of the public spotlight and off our TV screens.
