From Alan Hylands Liverpool - Player To Watch - Fernando TorresLiverpool and Spain striker, Fernando Torres ![]() Denis Doyle / Getty Images Fernando Torres Spain Top goalkeepr, strong in defence, creative and resolute in midfield, lacking in forward areas. A not unkind appraisal of Liverpool under Rafael Benitez regardless of how much money the former Valencia coach has spent in trying to bring more goals to the Anfield side.
This summer he has jettisoned bad boy Craig Bellamy to West Ham United and looked towards his homeland and the much talked about sensation, ""El Nino" Fernando Torres, Atletico Madrid's boy wonder who has been the source of much transfer speculation since he burst onto the European scene a few years ago. A transfer fee of £26.5m and the weight of expectation this will bring to Torres, especially as he tries to adapt to a new style of football that completely eluded his compatriot Fernando Morientes when he made the same trip to Anfield a few years ago, could be the young man's downfall although he is proven quality. Proven in La Liga is not the same as proven in the Premier League however and it's a massive gamble on Benitez's part as he tries to drag Liverpool closer to their first League title in almost twenty years. |
