The Football League Cup is contested by the 20 teams from the English Premiership and the 72 clubs from the English Football League with the winners gaining a place in the following season's UEFA Cup.
Since 1982 the League Cup has been named after it's primary sponsor giving it the following titles: Milk Cup (198182 to 198586), Littlewoods Challenge Cup (198687 to 198990), Rumbelows Cup (199091 and 199192), Coca-Cola Cup (199293 to 199798), Worthington Cup (199899 to 200203) and Carling Cup (200304 to present).
