Fixtures / Results

18/09/2007 - AC Milan 2 - 1 Benfica
18/09/2007 - Shakhtar Donetsk 2 - 0 Celtic

Match Roundup
Benfica got nothing more than a last minute consolation goal out of the defending champions at the San Siro as first half goals from Andrea Pirlo and Pippo Inzaghi had already killed the game as a competition.

Celtic's Champion's League campaign started in the worst possible fashion as an early storm of pressure brought the Ukrainians two goals and could easily have had double that figure or more. Gordon Strachan's men held on to keep the score down but will be very disappointed at their performance overall.

GAME WEEK 2 - 2nd/3rd October 2007

Fixtures / Results

03/10/2007 - Benfica 0 - 1 Shakhtar Donetsk
03/10/2007 - Celtic 2 - 1 AC Milan

Match Roundup
Rodriguez's first half goal was enough to keep Shakhtar's 100% record and condemn Benfica to the foot of the table with two played and no points on the board.

Dida's playacting antics after a slight tussle with a Celtic fan on the pitch may have overshadowed the result but it shouldn't take away too much from Celtic's achievement of beating the reigning European champions 2-1. A night to savour for all Celtic fans, one best forgotten for the Brazilian in the Milan goal.

Fixtures / Results

06/11/2007 - Celtic 1 - 0 Benfica
06/11/2007 - Shakhtar Donetsk 0 - 3 AC Milan

Match Roundup

Celtic avenged their late defeat in Lisbon by beating Benfica and re-awakening their own hopes of qualification from Group D. The game was mostly memorable for Binya's disgusting "tackle" on Scott Brown which earned him an instant red card and a UEFA investigation. The description "potentially career threatening" would not have been an exaggeration.

Milan again looked to the experience of Inzaghi and the indefatigable talent of Kaka to give them an away win in Donetsk which all but guarantees them qualification to the knock-out stages.
