The Weekly Ronaldinho Update
Sunday April 20, 2008
After reporting last week that AC Milan had agreed personal terms with Ronaldinho it seems like I jumped the gun a little in believing that the transfer was all sewn up. Enter two other clubs to muddy the waters a little and turn this transfer saga down a new path.
Eager to keep their city rivals from stealing the available talent, Inter Milan have also expressed a serious interest now and could have the pulling power of being back-to-back Serie A champions over the past two seasons. They will also have UEFA Champion's League football to offer Ronaldinho next season whereas AC Milan look set to have to make do with the lesser competition of the UEFA Cup. Inter undoubtedly have the money to spend and with rumours of Jose Mourinho coming in to replace Roberto Mancini as coach in the summer, a new superstar squad could be on order.
The other club rumoured to be brokering a deal with Ronaldinho's advisors is London based English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The stories leaking from the club that negotiations have been taking place just won't go away and while their current league position this season and general inability to sign the really big names has led to sniggers from fans of rival clubs in recent years, there is a growing belief that Spurs are serious contenders in this race if they can secure a sponsorship deal to part fund the massive wages. Stranger things have happened.

Comments
It would be more interesting, both for the English Premiership and for Ronaldinho, if he took the plunge into English soccer. There are enough Brazilian calciatori; let the English game enjoy a bit more latin flair. Ronaldinho could also take it as a personal challenge, and school the English game in his brand of subtlety. I hope, of course, that he would get an appreciative coach.
