Another game, another defensive horror show from Arsenal. Held to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool in the Premier League, this was another display of ineptitude at the back.
With goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny attempting Cruyff turns in the penalty area, Per Mertesacker turning his back on the ball in conceding the first goal, and Andre Santos guilty of a suicidal late pass that so nearly resulted in an injury time winner for Liverpool, Arsene Wenger looked to be ageing visibly on the touchline.
Arsenal needed to go 2-0 down through goals from Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson to wake from their stupor.
At times they were irresistible in the second-half, with goalscorers Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott continuing their recent fine form with encouraging performances.
But it is at the back where doubts remain and if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time this century, it will be because of haphazard defensive displays such as these.
