Reports in today's papers suggest that Fiorentina are to launch a cut-price bid for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Esteban Granero.
The Spaniard was the club's marquee signing when he joined the west Londoners from Real Madrid in the summer but, much like many of the other scattergun signings, has failed to convince.
Manager Harry Redknapp was clearly unimpressed with the Spaniard's efforts in the recent 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and pulled him off at half-time. He was then dropped for last weekend's draw at Wigan Athletic.
QPR did well to entice the classy midfielder from Real but he appears to have been dragged down to the level of his teammates in what has been a horrendous season.
Fiorentina already boast a wonderfully creative midfield, with the likes of Borja Valero, David Pizarro and Alberto Aquilani pulling the strings for coach Vincenzo Montella.
Granero joined in a deal worth up to £9 million but La Viola are reportedly set to test QPR's resolve with a £5.6 million bid.
The prospect of abandoning a sinking ship must be an attractive one for Granero.
