Barca on Top of the World

Barcelona used the Club World Cup in Yokohama as another platform to display their superiority over every other rival in the game as they defeated Brazilian side Santos 4-0 in the final on Sunday.

Lionel Messi, who is expected to win FIFA's World Player of the Year award in January, scored twice, with Xavi Hernandez and Cesc Fabregas also on target.

South American sides have traditionally taken this event very seriously, so such a comprehensive defeat will come as a blow to the Brazilian ego.

But in reality, Neymar and Co were playing against one of the best club sides ever; one that defeated Real Madrid 5-0 and Almeria 8-0 last season. The normal rules do not apply, as Santos coach Muricy Ramalho observed.

"Barcelona have played various teams around the world and nobody can beat them. Eventually some team may, but I don't think it's possible now," he said.

There was even speculation on Sunday that Barca have paid Santos a fee for first refusal on Neymar until 2014 in the knowledge that their squad will need a fresh injection of creativity. A scary prospect indeed.
