Big Transfers on Deadline Day

Transfer deadline day is always a highlight of the soccer calendar, so here are some of the high-profile deals that went through.

Arguably the most eye-catching transfer of the day was Robinho's permanent switch from Manchester City to AC Milan for an undisclosed fee.

The Brazilian will link up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic who agreed a loan move from Barcelona at the weekend. The prospect of Robinho, Zlatan and Ronaldinho in the same line up is a fascinating one, although I wonder just how much tracking back will be done.

Ghana's World Cup striker Asamoah Gyan joined Sunderland from Rennes for more than US$20 million. I believe Steve Bruce has overpaid for the player, but he was desperate to land a striker after Frazier Campbell was ruled out for at least six months with a knee injury.

Birmingham City have signed wide men Alex Hleb (on loan) and Jean Beausejour, as well as Spartak Moscow's Czech defender Martin Jiranek on a one-year contract.

AC Milan striker Marco Boriello has joined Roma on loan as the Rossoneri look to clear the decks after their recent big-name additions. Klass-Jan Huntelaar has also left the club for Schalke. The Germans have signed Atletico Madrid's Jurado, who scored this fine goal for the Spaniards against Sporting Gijon on Monday.

Mauro Camoranesi has left Juventus for Stuttgart, with the Bundesliga seemingly the place to be at present.

Another player leaving Juve is David Trezeguet who ended a 10-year association with the club by signing for Hercules. The newly-promoted Spanish side have also acquired Royston Drenthe from Real Madrid on a one-year loan deal.
