Diego completed a move from Juventus to Wolfsburg earlier this week and scored on his debut against Mainz on Saturday.
The Brazilian midfielder is a delightful playmaker when in form and there was always the feeling he would eventually come good for Juve.
Still only 25, Diego only joined Juventus from Werder Bremen last summer after three productive seasons in Germany where he won the Bundesliga and German Cup.
His weaving runs, subtle interplay with teammates and eye for goal had the Bremen faithful smitten but there was always the likelihood he would want to test himself with one of the world's traditional superpowers.
So when Juve came calling, I thought Serie A had attracted a player capable of going some way towards filling the void left by Kaka's defection to Real Madrid.
Despite scoring more goals and providing more assists than Wesley Sneijder last season, many of Diego's performances were uninspiring as he failed to run the game in the manor he so often had with Bremen.
He also fell out with former coach Ciro Ferrara and suffered with injury. The former Santos starlet was no doubt hindered by the malaise the club found itself in last season, going out in the Champions League group stages and finishing 7th in Serie A.
But he announced last month that he wished to stay at Juve, so this move comes as a surprise and something of a disappointment for those who wanted to see Diego succeed on the grandest stage.
