The Ronaldinho Saga Ends In Milan
Sunday July 20, 2008
So one of the year's biggest transfer stories hasn't ended in Manchester but in Milan where any football fan with half a brain knew it was going to end from the beginning. Ronaldinho may have put on a few pounds over the last year or two and he may not be able to find that spark of genius quite as often as he did five years ago but there are few players of the Brazilian's calibre to be found all over the world and, when they do come on the market, it's clubs like AC Milan they move to, not Manchester City.
I have to give City some credit for thinking big and aiming for a top level player, they have the money to back any major moves and, in Mark Hughes, a manager who has experienced football at the very top clubs but they are still somewhat off the mark when it comes to signing a true superstar like Ronaldinho.
AC Milan need a big summer of top signings but with money always an issue in the Italian game at the moment, could Ronaldinho be the big signing that gets used to soften up the Rossoneri fans for the departure of some of their current top stars like Kaka or Pirlo?
