More FA Cup Magic As The Big Guns Tumble Out

This season's FA Cup has easily been the most enjoyable for seasons for the simple reason that the so-called "Big Four" are now all out on their collective rear ends and some sides who no won would have bet on reaching the semi-finals are ready for their big day out at Wembley.

Barnsley's players must be pinching the arms off themselves to see if they are still dreaming after the 5th round victory over Liverpool never mind yesterday's smash and grab 1-0 win over beaten Carling Cup finalists Chelsea and the Championship strugglers fully deserve their place in the last four.

Premier League side Portsmouth may not see their victory over Manchester United as quite as much of a giant killing but the recent history of the FA Cup would suggest otherwise with Manchester United one of the dominant forces of the past fifteen years. Not this year though and Harry Redknapp's men will enjoy their trip to Wembley for the semis as well.

Cardiff City hammered lacklustre Premier League cures for insomnia Middlesbrough and the victory will be especially sweet for manager Dave Jones as he tries to re-establish his managerial career after such a promising start was prematurely ended at Southampton a few seasons ago.

As I type, West Brom are holding onto their 5-1 lead over plucky Bristol Rovers but regardless of which side goes through it will be three lower league sides in the FA Cup semi-finals and a Portsmouth team that hasn't visited Wembley on official business since 1942 making up the four clubs battling it out for a crack at the old jug come May.

"New football" fans beware, the worm has turned and maybe, just maybe, we've got our FA Cup back.
