Drogba Disgusted At Himself For Chelsea Move

Sunday November 4, 2007
Didier DrogbaWhat must Chelsea fans be thinking of striker Didier Drogba's behaviour towards their club over the past month? Firstly,they read a magazine article from France where the Ivory Coast striker makes it clear how quickly he wants to jump ship from West London in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho's departure as manager and now, in his own official DVD, both he and his agent tell of how disgusted Drogba felt with himself for actually joining Chelsea in the first place.

A clearly emotional Drogba tells of how he wished for a serious knee injury to scupper his move from Marseille, a club he professed to love, to the mega-rich Chelsea and how his dreams of doing a "Maldini" (i.e. dedicating his career to one club) were broken on the back of a transfer so personally lucrative to him that he felt disgusted with himself for accepting it.

The Chelsea fans have given Drogba unconditional support in recent weeks after the French magazine interview but surely now even the most diehard fan of the free scoring striker will have to question Drogba's dedication to the club and the cause of regaining the Premiership title?

As football fans of the modern era, we no longer believe that the players really care about our clubs in the same way that we supporters do, that would be naive to say the least. What we do expect is some modicum of respect for the club and it's traditions so that players being signed on multi-million pound contracts don't publicly admit their own self-disgust at having to wear the shirt. Where does Didier Drogba's Chelsea career go from here?

Hmmm, I doubt he’ll quit football.
He can do as he pleases…
The best coach of Europe left his team, the main reason he stayed with Chelsea was because Jose was there…

So since he’s gone-players are leaving and the team will crumble…
Stupid Russia owner, he has his self to blame… Chelsea was whole-not anymore im affraid… ;-{
